Stief celebrates 80 summers

WELL-known local resident Stief Rootman celebrated his 80th birthday on June 23, with his family and longtime friends and associates.

Rootman, who matriculated at the Cillie High School in 1949, has been a keen sportsman all his life. He played rugby at first league level in the Eastern Province, Western Province, Border and Northern Transvaal. He was also a light-heavyweight wrestler and a keen angler.
He captained the Springbok deep-sea angling team that won the world championship title in Key West, Florida, in the US and served on the council of the SA Deep-Sea Angling Union for 30 years.
He retired to Jeffreys Bay 25 years ago and spends his time travelling with his wife, Anne. The couple has three children, four grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Rootman recently published a book, with photographs, on the Rootman family tree, dating back to 1734.
