Stenden joins fight for rhino

STAFF REPORTER

STENDEN South Africa recently became the first tertiary institution in South Africa to take on the Rooting for Rhino Challenge which has already been completed by many local and international schools.

Public relations officer Lindy Thurgood organised over 200 students and staff to make a human rhino formation to stand against rhino poaching. They have put up a challenge against all of their satellite campuses, including Thailand, Bali, Holland and Qatar, to also take part.

Bryan McMahon flew a helicopter over the field and Roger Gailey took the photos.

Warren Manser from the Chipembere Rhino Foundation addressed all the students and gave an interesting presentation on the "senseless and dire” situation of rhino poaching, after which the students asked several questions.

"We would like to thank Jo Wilmot from the Rooting for Rhino School Route Challenge for making this possible, it turned out to be a great and rewarding challenge,” said Thurgood.
