Quilts for needy

THE Kouga Quilter's quarterly meeting took place on the afternoon of June 14 at the NG Moederkerk Hall in Humansdorp.
A large number of enthusiastic quilters from each of the group's five clubs from Port Elizabeth West, Cape St Francis, St Francis Bay, Jeffreys Bay and Humansdorp turned up.
The highlight of the afternoon was the presentation of 30 beautiful handmade quilts to the Victory4all projects which are run by the Victory Christian Church in Jeffreys Bay. They provide foster-home shelter and education for needy children.
Accepting the quilts on behalf of Victory4all, founder Johan Vos said: "The wonderful thing about this donation is not only the warmth and comfort that these quilts will provide for our children in years to come, but the fact that hours of personal attention and skill have gone into their creation. We are truly very thankful to this group of amazingly generous ladies.”
The ever-growing Kouga Quilters celebrated National Quilt Day over March 16 and 17 this year displaying more than 80 quilts and related items, and attracting 192 visitors to their exhibition.
Elmarie Herholdt won the viewer's choice prize for her quilt entitled "Aunty Millie's Garden” and the winner of the lucky draw quilt was Susan Rheeder from Cape Town.
