THE Cacadu Drama and Dance Festival, held at Kirkwood on Saturday, saw Port Alfred's own Sthembiso Ntinjane win the Best Actor award.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK…: Port Alfred resident Sthembiso Ntinjane won the Best Actor award at the Eastern Cape Drama and Dance Festival at Kirkwood on Saturday Picture: ROB KNOWLES
"It was really great to be recognised for my talent,” said a proud Ntinjane.

This is the second year the festival has taken place and Cacadu cultural officer, Mpumzi Mesani, said the plan was for this to become an annual event.

"We want to promote arts and culture in the Cacadu region,” he said. "And the event is also a good build-up to the National Arts Festival to be held in Grahamstown from June 28 to July 8 this year.”

Ntinjane, 25, was born in Port Alfred and attended Nomzamo High School where he first got into acting in drama class. He is a multi-talented person, often referred to as a triple threat in that he also sings in a band and dances.

He has previously appeared in studio productions at the National Arts Festival in 2008 and 2009 and said he hoped to be invited again this year, even at this late stage.

Ntinjane was part of a team of 10 from Port Alfred which managed to achieve second place overall at the Kirkwood festival.

"Six groups entered the drama section and 11 groups entered the dance section,” said Mesani. "Altogether, it was a very successful event.”
