Patensie rugby club needs help

THE United Barbarians Rugby Club (UBRC) from Patensie is a well-established outfit that has been around since 1992.
The team is a strong force in club rugby as they play in the Eastern Province Super Senior Grand Challenge cup and are currently unbeaten this season.
However, they are battling financially , says club secretary Magdalene Dlomo.
"Patensie is mostly a rural and farming community where unemployment is high, and most of our players do not have jobs.”
She says playing rugby is of paramount importance to the players, but as they do not have sponsorship the future looks bleak.
Although they have a clubhouse and a playing field Dlomo says they are severely handicapped when it comes to kitand training facilities. Transport is another challenge especially when they have to play away.
Appealing to the public and businesses to come onboard with sponsorship, Dlomo says the team is very marketable and will be an asset to any company that sponsors them.
UBRC was established as a result of all the rugby clubs in Patensie amalgamating in 1992.
The club's affairs are managed by executive president Ady Nelson, his deputy Amos Makhokane, the secretary Dlomo, her deputy Thembela Swepo and the treasurer Henry Nelson. The trustees are Michael Draai and Joseph Dlomo.
