The 17-year-old was born in Johannesburg and moved to Barberton in Mpumalanga when she was in Grade 3. In 2003 she moved to Port Alfred.

Kaelene is now in grade 11 at Port Alfred High School and when she matriculates she would like to study either photography or journalism.

Her interests are playing sports, dancing and "chilling with my friends”.

"I also enjoy shopping,” said Kaelene

"I am a fun, outgoing person and love, breathe, and sleep dance.”

Kaelene has some previous experience in beauty pageants as she participated in Miss Port Alfred Junior at PAHS when she was in grade 6 and was crowned 1st princess.

A few years later, in grade 9, she entered Miss PAHS where she was 2rd princess.

Kaelene says she sees the Miss Port Alfred contest as an opportunity to show other girls that "you don't have to be skinny or have stereotypical model looks”.

"It is also about inner beauty,” she said.

She hopes to help people through dance and making a difference in the lives of those that are less fortunate.

Kaelene says her advice to other entrants is to "be confident, love your own skin and also love yourself”.

She believes working on building relationships with other people and communicating well is very important.
