New low-cost homes for Pellsrus residents

THE Kouga Municipality has plans to address its housing backlog by building more than 200 new low-cost houses in Pellsrus.

In the Kouga region the backlog for RDP houses is 13723 homes.

Municipal spokesman Mfundo Sobele said the project to build 220 houses in Pellsrus had been approved by the department of human settlements. The Kouga municipality is currently busy with the pre-planning stages.

"Together with the department and the department of environmental affairs and tourism, we are conducting a basic assessment study, that includes infrastructure and other amenities.

"This study will give us an indication of when we can commence with work on site, starting with the necessary infrastructure.

Only then will we have an artist’s impression of what the project will look like when it is finished,” said Sobele.

Allocation committees have been elected in all wards and the municipality has a list of qualifying people.
Work will go ahead

once the construction phase has started.
