New classrooms for Bathurst Primary

BATHURST Primary School has two brand new classrooms to call their own, thanks to the department of education.

The prefabricated classrooms were built about two months ago and will provide much needed space for Grades 1 and 2 and another class.

While the school has been afforded extra space with these new classrooms, there are still needs in other areas.

Grade R teacher Joyce Peters said she wanted to appeal to the community to assist her class in any way they can, especially with outdoor equipment. They currently have one small jungle gym which has been at the school for many years, a slide which was donated this year and a broken swing.

She said her pupils do not even have balls to play with. Tables and benches would also allow the children to eat outside when the weather is good, she said.

"It breaks my heart. These are my angels,” she said.

She said they also need pigeon-holes to keep their bags in during the day.

Since concerns arose that the school may close, Talk of the Town has published several articles on any developments. The school has again submitted applications for two of their teachers to fill the remaining teaching posts. If their applications are approved, this will free up school funds that can be used elsewhere.

They have resubmitted these applications several times in the past two years. In a previous article (June 7, 2012), Talk of the Town reported that the last time these were submitted principal Jill McLeod was told the department had received the forms and would look into the matter.

Anyone who would like to help out can visit the school or call (046) 625-0735 for more information on what is needed. Smaller items can be dropped off at the Talk of the Town offices.
