COMPETING in sweltering summer weather, members of the Sunshine Coast Gymnastics Club (SCGC) still managed to perform well at the Metro Cup Tumbling and Trampoline Competition in Port Elizabeth recently.

The Metro Cup is the South African Gymnastics Federation's "nationals” for lower level trampoline and tumbling for South Circle.

"This prestigious competition took place on an extremely hot summer's day in November,” said SCGC head coach Carol-Ann Stiekema, "however all the gymnasts performed well and the coaches, judges and spectators were treated to some very good gymnastics.”

Stiekema said the girls' long-sleeved leotards seem to be a major problem for some competitors, so the Eastern Cape Gymnastics Association is looking at changing to short-sleeved or sleeveless leotards from next year.

"Sunshine Coast Gymnastics Club was very pleased to have some gymnasts who were wearing their EC colours for the first time!” she said.

Although a number of gymnasts were selected for the competition, not all of them were able to participate.
