Great successes for SAPS in theft cases

PORT Alfred station commander Colonel Lizette Zeelie has reported several successes by police in recent weeks.

  • A black Siemens laptop to the value of R4000 was stolen from No 3 Ferndale Road in Port Alfred at 2.30pm on March 16. The next day the information was followed up and the laptop was recovered in East London. Three suspects were arrested and will be kept in custody until March 29 for bail application. The laptop has been identified by the complainant.
  • A house at Barville Park Farm in the Southwell area was broken into between 6.35pm and 9.30pm on March 14. A laptop, hi-fi and DVD player were stolen. Three suspects were arrested and the stolen items were recovered. The suspects will appear in court on the March 29 for bail application. The property has been identified by the complainant. One of the suspects was also charged for possession of an unlicensed fire-arm. The Plettenberg Bay police are also looking for him in connection with a robbery case. Another suspect was also arrested for possession of four live rounds. Two other suspects are still at large.
  • MTN, Cell C and Vodacom cellphone vouchers as well as a Samsung E350 were stolen following a break-in at a shop at 430 Jauka Street, Sityhotyholweni in Nemato at 1pm on March 16. Information was received from a reliable source as to where the stolen items were at 7pm the same day. Zeelie met with the source. Three suspects were found to be in possession of the stolen items which were later positively identified by the complainant. A suspect was arrested.
  • A further six suspects have been arrested, four on March 26 and two on March 27 who were caught at the scene of a housebreaking.
  • Two housebreakers were sentenced to two years' imprisonment on March 20. Constable Abrahams is the investigator for all housebreaking cases.
