Convenor Tanya Schenk held a meeting last Wednesday inviting local stakeholders to learn more about her idea and share suggestions.

Her vision is to include the whole region, including Port Alfred, Grahamstown, Kenton-on-Sea, Kleinemonde and game reserves in the area.

"Why Bathurst? Why not,” she said.

Schenk said that Bathurst was the ideal place to hold such an event as it is historical, cultural, compact and quaint. It also has many pubs, restaurant, galleries and live entertainment.

An event like this has the potential to boost tourism, hopefully become an annual event and encourage returning business, she said. It can also be used as a tool to collect contacts for a database for future marketing which means that other local events can be promoted to visitors that have already been to Bathurst.

Local businesses, including restaurants, stand to benefit what is initially planned as a three day event. Schenk said visiting caterers will be needed to feed everyone coming to Bathurst.

"The pie will be big enough for everyone to have a piece,” she said.

The aim is to have quality gourmet food, delicious deli products and good wines. Other ideas include tours, a waiter race, a procession and a cocktail garden.
