Fond farewell

PAST and present Jeffreys Bay lady golfers gathered to bid farewell to their old fellow player Jane de Vos who has since moved to Cape Town.
After being here on holiday for some years she joined the club in the early ‘80s when she and her husband, Pierre, finally retired to Jeffreys Bay from the Karoo. She then had a handicap of 14 and from then on was a regular, determined, steady player who always gave of her best.
Janie is the only lady golfer to date to have had a hole-in-one on the Jeffreys Bay golf course. This she achieved in a special open competition day.
In one year she won so many trophies and competitions that the local newspaper referred to her as the "Tiger of Jeffreys Bay”.
Even after a couple of health setbacks she continued with the game she loved. However, in 2009 she decided to call it a day when she found that it was difficult to keep up with the players and brave the elements for 18 holes.
Former ladies' captain Hilary de Swart addressed the gathering saying how special Jane had been to all the golfers and that she would be sorely missed.
