Feeding the needy

GROWLING stomachs are something of the past for the children attending the various Victory 4 All projects in Jeffreys Bay.
The organisation recently opened its own bakery at the Ocean View complex, aimed at feeding poor children.
The Victory 4 All Bread House is operating in two of the buildings built alongside the taxi stand in Ocean View. The municipality granted the organisation permission to use the property.
Currently Dutch descendant Wouter Rol and Lucas Williams do all the baking.
"This is a huge operation,” Rol said adding that as the project had the potential to grow even bigger more staff would be employed.
Machinery and equipment was donated by a Dutch organisation, "Bakers for Bakers”. Some time ago a container with bakery equipment arrived in town. In mid May, three technicians from the Netherlands came to install the equipment. The three renowned bakers also offered training to Rol and Williams.

Rol said: "It has been proven that it is not easy for kids to learn on empty stomachs.”
This was the sole reason for the project he said. The bakery is equipped to produce up to a 1000 loaves a day. At this stage Rol said they feed the children twice a week but in the future they would like to have surplus bread to sell to the community.
Most of the ingredients are donated by the Bakels Company.

Rol said the next step would be to start a soup kitchen on the premises. They are hoping that donors will commit to donating vegetables and ingredients to start the soup kitchen.
