Council meetings may need RSVP

MUCH like accepting an invitation to a wedding or birthday party, members of the media and the public might need to RSVP first before attending Kouga municipal council meetings.

As part of a motion brought before council ANC councillor Phumzile Oliphant said the public and the media must first apply, and be accredited before attending council meetings.

He said there was currently no control over who attended and that the situation should be properly managed and controlled.

"It’s not like we have anything to hide. When an advertisement is placed in the newspaper that a council meeting is going to take place it should state that the media and the public must RSVP,” he said.

Due to other matters in his motion, the issue was moved on to pink paper, which means it will be discussed confidentially.
