Christmas comes early

THE Kouga Municipality has announced that by Christmas this year, more than 150 families from an informal settlement in Humansdorp will have electricity.
The electrification of the Old Golf Course settlement at KwaNomzamo started this week.
Kouga executive mayor Booi Koerat said the R1.7-million project would benefit 153 families living in shacks. "The Kouga council is committed to improving the lives of our people.
"Our ultimate goal is to ensure that each of these families has a proper house, but there is a lengthy process that must be followed before this can be achieved,” he said.
"Consequently, we decided to start with the electrification of the sites as a first step, so that the families living here at least have access to power. To many electricity is a ‘luxury'.”
The mayor said Adenco Construction and Clinkscales Maughan-Brown Electrical Consulting Engineers had been appointed as the contractors and consultants. The completion date is set for October.
