Bathurst Show feast

CANDICE BRADFIELD

THOSE who have not visited the Bathurst Show before will be happy to know there is something for everyone.

The show will take place from Friday March 30 to Sunday April 1.

There is live music organised for the whole weekend including a drum circle, the DSG marimba band which will play throughout the day on Saturday and the St Andrew's jazz band which will play at the Bull's Inn on Sunday.

For dog lovers, the championships for the Jack Russell show will take place on Saturday.

There are several categories in the baby competition, including "Grand champion baby boy” and "Grand champion baby girl”, "Champion baby under 12 months” and "Champion baby 13 – 24 months”. There is a prize for the best naturally fed baby under six months and four categories for the "Best baby” from birth up to 24 months.

You can enter your twins into either the 12 months and under category or 13 months to 24 months. There are also competitions for the older children, namely Dennis the Menace and Little Miss Bathurst Show for ages three to eight.

There are over 40 options in the home crafts section which is a good place to start if you are a first time entrant. The different categories are general, paper, fabric painting, pottery, dolls, wool and material, teddy bears, scrapbooking, beadwork and open. This means you can choose between wax candles, decoupage, greeting cards, calligraphy, fabric painting, hand-painted ceramics, soft toys, handbags, miniature teddy bears, bead necklaces and many more.

Artists have a variety of subjects to choose from in the art section. Some include landscape, seascape, waterscape, street scene or architecture, portrait, abstract, monochromic study and a Bathurst Show scene, all in any medium. Any subject can be chosen for the technical or graphic category.

Catalogues and entry forms are available from Sew Smart and the Bathurst Show offices. It only costs R5 per entry which is well worth being part of this fun event. Make sure your entries are in on time as each section has its own deadlines.
