PE factory destroyed by fire

A PORT Elizabeth factory was gutted by a fire which started in a conveyor belt early yesterday and spread quickly, fuelled by highly flammable material inside the building.

The roof of the Mzamo Nonwoven building collapsed about 90 minutes after the fire started.

Firefighters battled for more than four hours to extinguish the 10m-high flames.

Adjoining warehouses suffered smoke and water damage.

Mzamo Nonwoven, which manufactures non-woven fabric for the industrial and construction markets, is a subsidiary of Building Product Design based in England.
