THE Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has appealed for patience from members of the public using the 5th Avenue waste transfer site in Walmer, Port Elizabeth, as the site nears its capacity without having been cleared.
The municipality’s appeal follows complaints by members of the public that the site is filthy and filling rapidly without having been cleared in recent weeks.
When The Herald visited the site yesterday, rubbish was seen strewn all around the entrance and along its perimeter. The site itself had a huge pile of rubbish in one corner and a rapidly filling general waste area more than chest high. At least four more vehicles entered the site, some with trailers of waste, while The Herald was there.
