THE stork had a busy New Year’s Day delivering more than 150 babies to hospitals around the Eastern Cape.
Health Department spokesman Siyanda Manana said yesterday 153 babies were born at the province’s public hospitals, with Nelson Mandela Bay maternity wards being the busiest.
Among the babies were twins and a baby born exactly two years after its sibling.
Manana said 43 babies were born at the Dora Nginza and Uitenhage Provincial hospitals – up from last year’s 13. The first, a girl, was born at Dora Nginza at 1.30am.
The provincial figure of 153 was more than double last year’s 70.
