Power line fault leaves J-Bay residents in dark

JEFFREYS Bay residents have been left in the dark for the last two days following a fault on the main incoming power lines.

Residents of the surfing community took to social networks to express their irritation with the Kouga Municipality after they were promised the power would be restored.

Kouga Municipality spokeswoman Laura-Leigh Randall said yesterday the repairs were under way.

"With all the rain, some of the repair vehicles got stuck in the mud, causing further delays in pulling the lines up," Randall said.

One line had already been repaired by 11am yesterday and two more were expected to follow should everything go according to plan.

"We discovered a cross member of one of the big wooden structures that hold lines had fallen down, bringing the lines down with it," Randall said.

Affected areas included Aston Bay and Paradise Beach.

Randall said a special crane had to be brought in from Uitenhage to pull the lines back up. - Nomazima Nkosi
