Wrangle looms over rugby injury

A LEGAL battle is looming between a promising young Despatch rugby player, Louis Kruger, and the EP Rugby Union after the rising star claimed he did not receive appropriate medical assistance when he broke his leg in a club match in August.

Kruger's attorney, Andre Vlok, said his client felt he had been left in the lurch by EP Rugby and was unhappy with the Union's response to his claims of poor medical treatment.

The incident happened when Kruger was playing for Despatch against Progress at the Zwide Stadium in August.

"My 24-year-old son lay on the field in pain with a badly broken leg while the medical staff at the scene could not do anything until the ambulance arrived because there were no splints," his mother, Karien, said.

"As a mother, I want to make sure that this never again happens to another young player."

Kruger, who has a pin and four screws in his leg, said he was undergoing rehab for the injury. - George Byron
