After 33 years, man’s cattle impounded

CATTLE belonging to a Uitenhage farmer have been impounded because the land the animals used to graze on is now leased to Sovereign Foods.

Mxolisi Maku, 73, lived on the Rocklands farm with his cattle.

He settled there 33 years ago when he was hired by his former employer, Farmer Brown.

But earlier this year, grazing rights for the Rocklands farms were given to Sovereign Foods.

Because of his longstanding relationship with the chicken company, Maku was given a cow shortly after setting up his home on the farm.

Since 1981, he had managed to increase his herd from one to 50.
