Rooster has clucking good time but could end up in the pot

A CONFUSED rooster in Mount Pleasant has residents awake at all hours of the night – and some are now threatening to slaughter him for Christmas.

The problem, according to those who have tried to catch the crafty crower, is that he is extremely street smart.

No one knows who the rooster belongs to and residents in the area have now taken to social media to urge the owner to "claim your bird or else".

The offending fowl has been at it for months.

He crows randomly and has home owners from Milner Street to Athlone Street tossing and turning at all hours of the night.

Stanton Furter, 36, of Athlone Street, said his family first heard the rooster crowing about four months ago. It was so loud he thought someone was playing a prank with a loudspeaker.

The next morning the bird woke him up at 4am.

Since then the Furter family has been trying in vain to catch him.

"We tried to catch him by luring him with bread crumbs under a metal dome. We would pull the string once he was under, but he was too quick," Furter said. "We tried again and again but he knew what we were up to. - Kathryn Kimberley
