Boerboels savage paper deliveryman on his rounds

A TRAUMATISED newspaper deliveryman believed he was about to die when two large boerboels attacked him in New Brighton.

Phakamile Makhubalo, 53, said his day started much the same as any other Sunday when he set out to deliver the Sunday Times, but when he entered April Street, KwaFord, two large dogs started chasing him.

"I tried to run away, but I tripped and fell. That is when the dogs started biting my stomach and face.

"I screamed for help. Luckily the owner managed to stop them. However the damage had already been done. There was blood all over. I thought I was going to die."

Makhubalo said the dog's owner rushed him to Dora Nginza Hospital, where he received several stitches.

"Even though they saved my life, they still have to be careful with those dogs," he said.

Boerboel owner Sizwe Khosana, 27, took full responsibility for the incident, saying he had accidentally let the dogs out of the yard.

"We usually keep them in the back yard and I did not realise that they were in front. I tried to stop them. I took the guy inside to clean his wounds with antiseptic before rushing him to hospital.

"He was stitched more than five times and given antibiotics. What happened to him is very bad."  - Yoliswa Sobuwa
