Pupil, 13, 'choked by teacher'

THE mother of a Kabega Park Primary School pupil, who was allegedly pushed, choked and pinned to the ground by a teacher during assembly, has vowed to stop at nothing to ensure the man is brought to book.

The mother, who is not being named to protect the identity of her 13-year-old son, said she had found out from other staff how the Grade 5 pupil was allegedly assaulted in the school hall on Tuesday morning by the teacher. She told how she watched camera footage of her son being violently pushed and pinned to the ground, effectively choking him.

Police confirmed that a case of common assault had been opened at the Kabega Park police station.

The boy was treated for minor internal bruising by his doctor yesterday.

The woman was writing a letter yesterday for delivery to the Education Department's Ethel Valentine offices in Sidwell for chief education specialist George Lukwe to investigate the matter - Zandile Mbabela
