Injured man's IOD claim: no progress in five years

ALMOST five years after being flung from the back of a truck, a general worker who spent two months in hospital has accused the Eastern Cape Roads Department of dragging its feet in processing his injury on duty (IOD) claim.

Mqondisi Manjati, 44, of Alice, said this meant his claim could not be finalised, so he could not be compensated for loss of earnings.

He sustained head injuries, lacerations on his hand and wrist and a fractured humerus when he was thrown off the truck on the N10 near Alicedale on June 8 2010.

He claimed that the driver, under the influence of alcohol, was doing 120km/h in a 30km/h zone when he ramped a pavement in an attempt to avoid roadworks.
