Council chamber may find new home in old Post Office

THE Mandela Bay Development Agency is toying with the idea of building a new council chamber in the old Post Office building to further enhance urban renewal in Port Elizabeth's CBD.

The building, which belongs to property mogul Ken Denton, is undergoing extensive renovations.

The idea, although still in its infancy, could see a bigger council chamber with boardrooms and offices.

In a report to the economic development, tourism and agriculture portfolio committee, which meets tomorrow, MBDA chief executive Pierre Voges requests the committee's blessing to investigate the possibility of purchasing the old heritage building. - Rochelle de Kock
