PE foursome off to Canada for Irish dance competition

FOUR dancers from the McWilliams Academy in Port Elizabeth have qualified for the 2015 World Irish Dance Championships in Montreal, Canada.

The four are ready to put on their wigs, tiaras, earrings, white poodle socks and heavy and soft shoes as they gear up for the event.

The four dancers are Courtney Pearce, 22, Siobhan Moore, 18, Jenna Hayes, 13, and Kyle Ward, 13.

The selected dancers had to perform three dance routines with the third being a solo step dance performance – all adjudicated by a panel of independent judges from Ireland and the UK.

The annual competition, which runs for eight days, will begin on March 29, the Sunday before the Easter weekend.

Dance teacher Jennifer McWilliams expressed excitement over her students qualifying for the championships.
