Walmer woman robbed in home

A WOMAN, 77, was attacked and robbed inside her Walmer home by two men as she walked out of her bathroom yesterday.

The men – one armed with a screwdriver – held her hostage in her bedroom while they ransacked the Villiers Road house after gaining access at about 9am. It is believed the robbers entered the house through an open sliding door.

Police spokeswoman Captain Sandra Janse van Rensburg said the men were in the woman's bedroom.

"As she walked into her room she was confronted by two men.

"One grabbed her, slapped her in the face and made her sit on the bed," she said.

"They threatened her while ransacking the bedroom. [One man] removed a ring from her hand. The other went through her purse."

Janse van Rensburg said the woman was in shock. Police are investigating a case of house robbery. – Gareth Wilson
