New app aids pre-school teachers

PRE-SCHOOL teachers and childcare givers in Nelson Mandela Bay are tracking and assessing young children's development at just the click of a button with a newly launched app by early childhood development training centre Early Inspiration.

The app, which has changed and streamlined Early Inspiration's preschool teacher training since it went live in June, is available to those working in and with preschools on Apple and Android devices.

It features age-appropriate assessments focusing on physical- motor, social and emotional, cognitive, visual perception, play and language and speech development.

The app also helps cut downtime spent on assessment admin work and allows teachers more contact time with children

Early Inspiration founder Dr Lauren Stretch, the mastermind behind the app, said it had completely changed the way the centre drafted teacher training.

"We have 6.2-million children in the 0 to 5 age cohort in South Africa. Their development is vital for their individual wellbeing," she said.

"Giving children the right environment and the right stimuli ensures brain development." - Zandile Mbabela
