High School bomb scare a hoax

PUPILS and staff at Westering High School in Port Elizabeth had to be evacuated yesterday afternoon following a hoax bomb scare.

Principal Stuart Hayward said they received the phone call at 1.20pm  and immediately evacuated all learners and staff and called the relevant authorities.

“We take these kinds of reports seriously but this one turned out to be a hoax,” Hayward said.

He said it took police and sniffer dogs approximately 30 minutes to search the school. A medical response team also waited outside the school premises during the search. He said some pupils were frightened and believed the bomb threat to be real.
