Pistorius career prospects was "bright"

Oscar Pistorius's manager Peet van Zyl told the Pretoria High Court that to describe his client's career prospects as "bright" prior to February 14th last year would "be an understatement".

Van Zyl was testifying in mitigation of sentence after the Blade Runner was convicted of culpable homicide for the death of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp.

Van Zyl said that, at the time, Pistorius had negotiated a number of lucrative endorsement deals that would have provided him financial security for the next five years of his career and his planned retirement from athletics thereafter.

But, he added that all of the contracts had been terminated following the Blade Runner's conviction.

Prosecutor Gerrie Nel was granted an early adjournment by Judge Thokozile Masipa in order to examine a 120-page document submitted by Van Zyl as evidence of Pistorius's charitable works.

Nel is expected to begin cross-examining Van Zyl when court resumes tomorrow morning.
