Job creation dream pays dividends for Salsoneville man

WHAT started out as a dream of creating a cleaning business to help alleviate poverty in Port Elizabeth's northern areas will soon be a reality for Girshwin Jansen.

Today Jansen, 29, of Salsoneville, is jetting off to Durban as the only Port Elizabeth finalist to receive an award for developing one of the most innovative business plans by young entrepreneurs in the country.

His idea to start up Bluzest Cleaning Company is aimed at job creation for unemployed youth by cleaning clinics, hospitals and schools.

He was one of 600 entrepreneurs who took part in various courses presented by the Afrikaanse Handelsinstituut (AHI) focused on promoting job creation and the development of the next generation of entrepreneurs.

With only the cream of the crop making it to the top, Jansen now forms part of the core of a flagship Youth Entrepreneurial Development Programme and will be guided by top business experts in his journey of building a sustainable business. - Alvené du Plessis
