Sex-charge teacher to know fate soon

A SENIOR Linkside High School teacher who was arrested for the statutory rape of a pupil last week will know by Friday whether to report for work when schools reopen on Monday.

The teacher, who cannot be named until he pleads, faces a precautionary suspension by the Eastern Cape Education Department.

It is alleged the teacher had a sexual relationship with the pupil for three years.

The pupil has since left Port Elizabeth and posted on her Facebook page that she had officially changed her name with the Department of Home Affairs, although she has to continue using her old one for court purposes.

The department started its investigation last week after receiving a police report regarding the matter. - Zandile Mbabela
