Life in prison for killing church leader

THERE were gasps of relief in the Port Elizabeth High Court yesterday when the two men convicted of murdering Nelson Mandela Bay church leader and sports administrator Vuyisile Koom were sentenced to life in prison.

On Tuesday, Acting Judge Bulelwa Nomjana-Ndzondo found Nyameko Gebengwana, 29, and Bathandwa Ngqonga, 36, guilty of murdering Koom at his New Brighton home on April 29 2011. They were also convicted of robbery with aggravating circumstances.

They received 15 years for the robbery charge which will be served concurrently with the sentence of life in prison.
