Bay families desperate for answers on disaster

THE families of Nelson Mandela Bay victims of the church building collapse in Nigeria, in which 84 South Africans died, are still desperately seeking answers.

At least two Bay residents – Dora Nginza Hospital nurse Nobahle Fina and Pumza Masiza, who worshipped at Victory Ministries Church – died in the tragedy at the compound of popular televangelist TB Joshua in Lagos on September 12.

Uitenhage resident Ivy Langford, 66, was trapped under the rubble for two days and is recovering in hospital.

The family of Masiza, 32, are struggling to come to terms with her death. While they declined to speak to the media yesterday by saying they were not yet ready, her sister, Nonqaba, had earlier said they were still looking for answers. “We don’t know what happened,” she said. Yesterday, neighbours, family and friends went to their home in Zwide to support the family.
