Accused in Mkavu case drops bail bid

THE man accused of murdering Nelson Mandela Bay councillor and human settlements portfolio chairman Buyisile Mkavu abandoned his bid for bail yesterday.

The news was welcomed by ANC members who had filled the Uitenhage Magistrate's Court.

Bongani Cagwe, 29, who allegedly murdered Mkavu on August 2, was scheduled to make a formal bail application yesterday.

However, following a brief appearance, he opted to waive these rights and instead remain in custody.

The matter was postponed by presiding magistrate Gustav Joubert to October 27 for further investigation. - Tremaine van Aardt
