ANCYL poll a formality

NELSON Mandela Bay ANC Youth League regional task team (RTT) leader Xolani Mgxotheni is likely to be elected uncontested as the league's boss at its elective conference this weekend.

Mgxotheni was appointed as the task team convener earlier this year after the league's structures from national to regional were disbanded last year.

The Bay structure will hold a two-day elective conference in Humansdorp tomorrow and on Sunday.

Mgxotheni said the conference was just a formality as there was an "understanding" between branches to give him the mandate to lead in the Bay.

"I have not heard of anyone contesting as we sit with the majority of the support of branches. We were in one venue as branches when we decided who should lead, so I doubt anyone will contest.

"But if there is someone who wants to contest, it is their right as members of the ANC Youth League."

Mgxotheni said it had been agreed that ANC PR councillor Andiswa Mama would be the regional secretary. - Mkhululi Ndamase
