Eleven arrested in PE crime sweep

NEARLY a dozen suspects were arrested during several late-night raids around Port Elizabeth on Wednesday.

Police spokeswoman Warrant Officer Thembi Gwe said the raids formed part of an operation by Kwazakhele detectives.

The 11 suspects are wanted for a range of crimes including murder, assault, robbery and burglary.

The raids were held in several areas including Kwazakhele, Zwide, Soweto-on-Sea and Veeplaas.

"The aim was to take wanted suspects off the streets as part of our campaign to clamp down on crime," Gwe said.

"Of the suspects arrested, eight are males and three females. At this stage I cannot give the court appearance dates as detectives will first question them andascertain if they are linked to other crimes."

By law, suspects must appear in court within 48 hours of their arrest. – Gareth Wilson
