Motshekga to strengthen education district offices

BASIC Education Minister Angie Motshekga yesterday highlighted the need to beef up education districts – which have been found not to be giving schools effective support – in a bid to hold them more accountable.

Delivering her budget vote speech in parliament yesterday, in which she sliced up her department's R19.7-billion pie, Motshekga said an analysis of district performances showed a need to coach officials in giving support to schools.

"Education districts have a pivotal role in supporting schools, improving their functionality and developing the education institutions in order that national learning outcomes are achieved," Motshekga said. - Zandile Mbabela
