A NELSON Mandela Bay traffic officer was robbed of his cellphone and stabbed in the arm while walking to his vehicle in Koyana Street, Zwide, yesterday.

The attack happened shortly after 8am after traffic officer Albert Skosana had visited someone living in the street.

"When he returned to his traffic vehicle four men were waiting for him. One had a knife and another a firearm," police spokesman Captain Andre Beetge said.

"The officer did not have a firearm on him at the time. The men demanded his belt and his cellphone."

Beetge said a scuffle ensued as Skosana handed over the items and he was stabbed in the arm.

The four robbers fled and Skosana radioed colleagues for assistance before being taken to hospital for treatment. – Gareth Wilson
