Soldier shot – for not having a firearm

A SOLDIER is in a serious condition in hospital after being shot for not owning a gun.

Warrant Officer Thembi Gwe said the man was walking in Serothe Street in Kwazakhele at about 10pm on Saturday when he was shot several times after he was confronted by three attackers who demanded his firearm. "When he said he did not have a firearm, they shot him."

Gwe said the man, aged 39, was admitted to Livingstone Hospital while a friend, who was stabbed in the robbery, received treatment there.

"The shooting victim is recovering in hospital and his friend was treated for minor stab wounds and discharged. Their three attackers were armed with more than one firearm." – Cindy Preller
