Golf estate must give information to flood victim

ONE of the region's most exclusive golf estates has been ordered to provide information to a St Francis Bay woman who believes their construction of a diversion for flood water caused widespread damage to her property in 2011.

According to court papers, Frances Becker, who co-owns a smallholding on the bank of the Kromme River estuary in St Francis Bay, believes her property was damaged after the St Francis Links Golf Estate diverted flood water from its dune slacks, or valleys, to the adjacent Sand River catchment. The Sand River leads off from the Kromme River.

As a result of this diversion, tons of sand and debris were deposited on her property during severe flooding in July 2011. She says milkwood trees on her four hectare property were also destroyed. - Lee-Anne Butler
