NEW Police Minister Nkosinathi Nhleko was made aware yesterday of several policing issues in the Eastern Cape, including problems plaguing Nelson Mandela Bay.

Nhleko attended a briefing with Eastern Cape police bosses, including brigadiers and generals, at the provincial police headquarters in Zwelitsha, King William's Town.

It was part of his national campaign to assess challenges in each province and to address senior management about transformation within the police.

Nhleko was briefed by provincial police commissioner General Cynthia Binta.

"I was informed about some of the problematic crimes in the province. This includes the high number of sexual offences in some parts of the province such as Mthatha, and other issues such as gangsterism in Gelvandale [in Port Elizabeth]," he said. - Gareth Wilson
