Hospitals have to manage budgets to boost efficiency

THE chief executives of Port Elizabeth's public hospitals and district managers have been given a R2.65-billion budget to manage personnel and equipment at the city's medical facilities.

Eastern Cape health superintendent-general Dr Thobile Mbengashe said at the weekend he would be delegating budgets to the hospitals in an attempt to streamline operations.

But health spokesman Sizwe Kupelo said the increased responsibility came with a warning.
