A DESPATCH teenager, who has only been playing competitive baseball for two years, is set to become the first Eastern Cape player in more than a decade to represent the country when he participates in the World Cup next month.

Dylan le Roux, 14, was selected from more than 210 players at the recent under-15 National Baseball Championship in Durban to represent South Africa at the under-15 Baseball World Cup in La Paz, Mexico.

"It was a huge shock and a great honour to be chosen for the team. I have only been playing the sport competitively for two years. I have always focused on rugby and cricket which I feel definitely helped me excel at baseball," the Daniel Pienaar High School Grade 9 pupil said. - Tremaine van Aardt
