Despite promises, local football did not benefit

LOCAL football associations (LFAs) are crying foul, saying they were led to believe they too would benefit from legacy projects in the form of coaches and equipment, which many are still waiting to receive.

As part of the Sport Development Programme, R15-million was invested in training coaches, referees, technical officials, administration staff and managers in the Eastern Cape.

Port Elizabeth was the only city chosen to host Safa Level One coaching courses for coaches from the local associations. The 50 selected were trained during 2009 and 2010, and received a coaching certificate. In addition, 29 athletics coaches and 24 cricket coaches also received training. - Tremaine van Aardt
