THE SA Municipal Workers' Union in Nelson Mandela Bay has threatened to lobby other regions in the Eastern Cape to stop contributing to the union's national coffers if its bosses do not start probing how R140-million from its purse allegedly vanished.

Samwu in the Bay resolved at its general meeting held in New Brighton on Friday to use the upcoming provincial shop stewards council to persuade other regions to open a provincial trust account into which members' fees would be paid until a forensic audit was conducted. No date has been set yet for the shop stewards council.

Samwu president Sam Molope previously rejected the allegations, saying they were baseless and unfounded as auditors had recently found the union's books to be in order. - Mkhululi Ndamase
