ONCE Nelson Mandela Bay's first citizen, driving its administration and taking home R1-million a year, Zanoxolo Wayile is back in the city to begin job hunting.

This comes after he failed to make the cut to represent the ANC in parliament, where he spent the past year.

Despite party members placing him at No149 on the ANC's list of parliamentary candidates, the former Bay mayor – who was recalled by President Jacob Zuma last year and redeployed to the National Assembly – was left out of the ANC's 249 MPs appointed last month.

Wayile's recall as mayor followed a lengthy and brutal power struggle between him and then ANC regional leader Nceba Faku, ultimately over how the city should be governed. - Nwabisa Makunga
