'Freedom' theme to boost Bay tourism

AS South Africa celebrates 20 years of democracy, Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism wants residents of the metro to tell their stories of freedom as part of its marketing strategy to position the Bay as the birthplace of freedom.

Nelson Mandela Bay is known as the political home of many renowned freedom fighters and it is the only city in the world that carries the name of the global icon and former statesman – facts on which the NMBT hopes to capitalise.

Presenting the tourism entity's strategic plan to boost tourism, NMBT chief executive Mandlakazi Skefile said that by 2020 the Bay should be known for its natural beauty, cultural diversity, unique and contemporary lifestyle, and creative freedom and innovation. - Rochelle de Kock
